PCSS Office-Based Treatment for Opioid Use Disorders - The Half and Half Waiver Course - Monday, 12/19/2022 Learning Objectives - To understand the federal Drug Abuse Treatment Act (DATA) of 2000 and the subsequent revisions that lists the criteria needed for Office Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT) utilizing buprenorphine for opioid dependence and the new changes/guidelines - To distinguish between spontaneous withdrawal and precipitated withdrawal and the appropriate methods of buprenorphine induction - To describe and contrast the functions of full mu agonists, partial agonists and antagonists - To describe the basic approach used in at least three different types of non-pharmacological treatment of opioid dependence - To describe three symptoms of opioid withdrawal or intoxication that mimic symptoms of a psychiatric disorder - To list the criteria for establishing the diagnosis of opioid dependence - To list at least three situations in which patient information, with patient identity, can be shared under current laws protecting the patient’s confidentiality - To understand and minimize buprenorphine misuse and diversion. Now Available On-Demand CME Osteopathic Considerations in Substance Use Disorder Presented by Meghna Patel, DO, MPH Explore how osteopathic principles and practice can support patients with substance use disorders. Dr. Patel reviews specific osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT) that addiction medicine physicians can integrate into care. Learning objectives: Define the tenets of osteopathic medicine Describe osteopathic care models in SUD management Explain the pathophysiology of substance use and addiction Understand how OMT techniques work and their potential use in SUD Demonstrate selected OMT techniques applicable in practice About the presenter: Dr. Patel earned her DO degree from Nova Southeastern University, completing a pre-doctoral fellowship in osteopathic principles and practice. She completed her pediatric residency at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, where she developed an OMM curriculum, and later trained in osteopathic neuromusculoskeletal medicine at PCOM.
